In the past two weeks, Swarthmore College student activists raised concern for the way that AlliedBarton treats it’s employees. Today, the Northumberland (PA) County Commissioners reversed their plans to outsource their security guard jobs to this notoriously anti-worker employer.<\/p>\n

It was a cost-savings decision that would save the county about $56,000 a year.<\/a><\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n But on Tuesday, the commissioners agreed to table approval of the contract.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cWe want to look at the implications for the county and the workers a little closer,\u201d Chairman Frank Sawicki said.<\/a><\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Added Commissioner Kurt Masser, \u201cWe want to be fair to the employees.”<\/a><\/p>\n The Daily Item also sites our campaign as the reasoning behind the pull back here<\/p>\n The county\u2019s security department is unionized, Allied Barton has been the focus of nationally-watched struggles with labor, including a struggle to establish a union local at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where guards are employed by Allied Barton.<\/a><\/p>\n
