50 activists held a loud rally today at 5 pm outside of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in protest of the $.25 raise that AlliedBarton offered their guards last week after six months of negotiations.
The rally also served as notice to two other security companies that have guards at the facility. Security guards from Roman Sentry and Scotland Yard have also filed petitions to be represented by the independent, Philadelphia Security Officers Union.
The activist also heard that security guards that work in the Perelman Annex, a part of the museum, are illegally being prevented from taking lunch breaks and that Scotland Yard guards have recently learned that their paid vacations have been revoked.
It was evident that the tone of the rally had changed from the happy events of years past. A distinct mood of outrage and anger came forward from the speeches of the workers.
We are planning an extended and intense direct-action campaign in response to the museum’s anti-union attitude.
Justice is coming to Fairmount.
