Philadelphia Labor Activists Speak Out Against SB 1070

On 05.11.10, In Immigration Reform, Uncategorized, By Fabricio

From the May 2, Philadelphia Inquirer…

About 100 people gathered at the Southwest Philadelphia park, sweating under an Arizona-strength sun and fuming about the new Arizona immigration law. That law requires police to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they might be in the country illegally – a measure critics say will lead to abuses…

Fabricio Rodriguez, lead coordinator of the Philadelphia Security Officers Union, told the crowd that the Arizona law “should be considered by everyone here as an assault on working people.”

Unemployment is high, real wages have stagnated, and millions worry they will lose their homes – but Arizona has targeted “the most powerless,” he said.
